Burke Architectural Millwork: From Placeholder to Precision

Architecture & Construction

Burke Architectural Millwork — Squarespace Website & Brand Identity

Client: Kelly Victor-Burke, Burke Architectural Millwork · Burke Bespoke
Project Type: Full Website Build + Logo Refresh
Duration: 4 weeks

Burke Architectural Millwork has spent a decade crafting some of Michigan's most remarkable commercial and luxury residential interiors — wine bars, Italian trattoria fit-outs, whole-home environments. None of it was visible online. The brief was simple: build a website that matches the quality of the work itself.

The Challenge

Burke Architectural Millwork had spent ten years producing exceptional work — precision millwork for commercial hospitality environments, luxury residential interiors, architectural installations. The kind of craft that sells itself, once someone can actually see it.

The problem: there was nothing to see. A placeholder homepage, no portfolio, and two distinct divisions — Burke Architectural Millwork (BAM) for commercial clients, and Burke Bespoke for private residential — operating under the same roof with no digital presence for either.

In a field where the work is the argument, the absence of a portfolio isn't just a gap. It's a missed conversation.

Two Brands, One Site

The core strategic challenge was not visual — it was structural. BAM and Burke Bespoke serve completely different audiences with different expectations, language, and decision-making processes.

Burke Architectural Millwork works with architects, developers, and project managers on commercial environments: restaurants, hotel lobbies, bank interiors, retail spaces. They need evidence of scale, technical capability, and sector experience.

Burke Bespoke works with private clients on luxury residential projects: whole-home environments, bespoke kitchens, custom storage and dressing rooms. They need to feel confidence, trust, and creative alignment.

The site presents both clearly — a dedicated section for each, no hierarchy between them, no confusion about which is which. The portfolio filters between commercial and residential so each visitor finds what's relevant to them. The contact form asks the right questions upfront: project type, scale, timeline, how they found Burke — streamlining inbound communication and qualifying enquiries before they reach Kelly and Barry.

Design: Let the Work Lead

Most millwork and construction sites front-load credentials. Accreditations, years of experience, a list of services. The visitor has to go looking for the actual work.

Burke's site inverts this. The work opens the conversation. Everything else supports it.

No sliders. No animations. No competing visual noise. Full-bleed photography, generous white space, and a considered colour palette drawn from the warmth of the millwork environments themselves — earthy, grounded, not cold. The site reads as a design studio, not a trade contractor.

Typography was chosen to match: Canela, a contemporary serif with quiet authority, used for headings throughout. Clean and deliberate without decoration. In a field defined by material craft, the typography needed to carry weight without performing.

Photography quality across projects varied — obtaining strong imagery in this industry can be difficult, and not every project had professional coverage. Where that was the case, the layout worked harder: leading with the strongest image, tighter framing, more space. The work is always presented at its best.

The Portfolio and Casa di Burke

The portfolio uses a hub page with category filtering, leading into individual project pages for each realisation. Each page opens with a full-width lead image, sequences the photography thoughtfully, and credits collaborating architects and designers where relevant.

Within the Studio section sits Casa di Burke — Burke Bespoke's own space in Livonia, Michigan. Designed, fabricated, and installed entirely in-house. It's the most complete expression of what the studio can do when given full creative scope, and it's presented as such: twenty images in an unbroken vertical sequence, no grid, no thumbnails, minimal text.

The narrative arc moves from entry through contrast, spatial intelligence, material integration, and signature moments. It's the closest thing on the site to an editorial spread — and the photography earns it.

When the Scope Expanded

Mid-project, it became clear the Burke Bespoke brand needed a logo refresh — the existing mark wasn't available in formats suitable for web use. Rather than work around it, I addressed it directly as part of the build.

The approach: retain the double-chevron mark, and echo the carpenter's square geometry from the BAM logo in a way that made the two brands read as siblings rather than strangers. The result is a cohesive dual-brand identity — distinct, intentional, and coherent side by side.

"Brilliant flipping the carpenter's square of the original logo for Burke Bespoke. It looks so cohesive."

— Kelly Victor-Burke,

What started as a website became something closer to a full brand exercise.

Key Features:

The Result

Burke Architectural Millwork launched June 2026 — their first real web presence in ten years. Within days of going live, the first enquiry arrived. In the same week, Kelly and Barry were using the site to showcase their work in a meeting with prospective clients. Within that same period, Kelly had already referred another business owner.

Since launch: 389 visits, 353 unique visitors, 842 pageviews.

The site is doing what it was built to do.

Anna exceeded every expectation that we had. What began as a website redesign evolved into a complete brand and positioning exercise for our company. She quickly understood our business, our values, and the distinction between our commercial and luxury residential divisions, despite being located in the United Kingdom while we are based in Michigan. Her creativity, strategic thinking, attention to detail, and patience throughout the process were exceptional. Anna not only delivered a beautiful website, but helped us tell our story more effectively, refine our messaging, and create a digital experience that truly reflects who we are as a company. Communication was excellent, deadlines were met, and her willingness to collaborate through countless revisions never wavered. Anna is an extraordinarily talented designer and a true professional. I would not hesitate to work with her again and recommend her without reservation. We will work with her in the future.
