Buffalo Girl: Strategic Digital Management for Artisan Craft

Ongoing Digital Management & E-commerce Strategy

Client: Buffalo Girl Founder
Project Type: Website and E-commerce Development + Digital and Art Strategy
Duration: 6 months ongoing project

An artisan leatherworker in Byron Bay, Australia, needed more than a website—she needed strategic digital partnership. I provided ongoing website management, e-commerce optimisation, content creation, photography direction, and data-driven strategy to keep her audience engaged and products selling.

The Challenge

Terry creates exquisite handcrafted leather accessories in Byron Bay, combining Western-influenced design with meticulous artisan technique. Her challenge wasn't creating beautiful products—it was maintaining digital presence that kept pace with her craftsmanship whilst driving consistent sales.

The existing website required regular updates, new products needed compelling presentation, and the e-commerce platform demanded ongoing optimisation to maintain performance. Additionally, audience engagement required strategic content creation and email marketing integration.

This wasn't a "set it and forget it" situation. Artisan businesses need dynamic digital presence that evolves with inventory, responds to customer behaviour, and maintains brand story across touchpoints.

Strategic Approach: Ongoing Digital Partnership

Rather than treating this as a single project, I approached Buffalo Girl as an ongoing collaboration—a digital partnership where strategy, creativity, and technical management worked together to support business growth.

Website development and management became the foundation. I regularly updated pages, added new product listings, refined navigation based on user behaviour, and ensured mobile responsiveness as the platform evolved.

E-commerce strategy focused on converting browsers into buyers through compelling product presentation, clear purchase pathways, and strategic calls-to-action informed by analytics data.

Content Creation and Product Storytelling

Each leather accessory had a story—materials sourced, techniques employed, cultural influences. I created product descriptions that conveyed this craftsmanship whilst maintaining clear, benefit-focused language that supported purchasing decisions.

Photography direction ensured new products received professional presentation. Whether directing lifestyle shots or styling detailed product photography, the visual content maintained brand consistency whilst showcasing unique pieces effectively.

Content wasn't limited to product pages. I developed additional pages highlighting Terry's process, materials, and the cultural influences behind her designs, deepening brand story and customer connection.

Mailchimp Integration and Campaign Management

Email marketing became crucial for maintaining customer relationships and driving repeat purchases. I integrated Mailchimp with the e-commerce platform, managed subscriber lists, and created campaigns highlighting new products, seasonal offerings, and behind-the-scenes content.

Campaign strategy balanced promotional content with brand storytelling, maintaining engagement without overwhelming subscribers.

Analytics-Driven Optimisation

Ongoing management required data-informed decisions. I monitored website analytics regularly, tracking metrics including:

  • Traffic sources and user behaviour patterns

  • Product page performance and conversion rates

  • Checkout abandonment and friction points

  • Mobile versus desktop usage and experience gaps

  • Email campaign performance and engagement rates

These insights informed strategic adjustments: refining product page layouts based on conversion data, simplifying checkout based on abandonment patterns, optimising mobile experience based on device usage, and adjusting email frequency based on engagement metrics.

Social Media Support

Whilst not the primary focus, I provided light social media support—creating graphics, suggesting content directions, and ensuring brand consistency across platforms.

The Outcome

Six months of ongoing collaboration resulted in a dynamic digital presence that supported Terry's artisan business effectively. Regular updates kept the website fresh, strategic optimisation improved conversion rates, and data-driven decisions ensured resources focused on highest-impact activities.

The project demonstrated the value of ongoing digital partnership for artisan businesses—where technical management, creative strategy, and performance optimisation combine to support sustainable growth.
